Modest sewing pattern and clothing resources for women -

Welcome, sewing pattern enthusiasts! Things have been busy in 2014 at the home office of Fashion Belle. I had hoped that the launch of my sewing patterns for women would occur by early fall, but so far the work is still in progress. Half of this year has been taken with contract employment with other companies, and beyond that most of my spare time has been donated to unexpected home repairs and aiding 14 refugees who were settling in my area. Please keep checking back for progress on the pattern collection, and also use the tabs above to explore reviews of hundreds of other companies that provide modest clothing and sewing patterns.

Dressing Up vs. Dressing Down

"Hi, would you like me to unchain the coat from the wall so you can try it on?" the Bloomingdale's saleswoman asked me.

"I'm just looking, thanks. This Escada coat is amazing, but forty thousand dollars is quite a lot," I said, standing there in my jogging suit and hooded parka with a backpack full of cheap food for the day (New York fast food was expensive for me, too).

Reality Check: Thin is Not Always In

(Photo credit: The pleated skirt, a style that flatters only the flattest of waistlines, from Lands' End) The fashion distress of my high school years was the knife-pleat skirt such as the Lands' End style pictured. Despite being thin as a teenager, my stomach was never flat or even indented, as seemed to be the case with the glamorous girls among my student peers who chose partially stitched-down pleat styles to fulfill the skirt requirement of our educational dress code.

Natural Makeup

When dressing modestly, other factors of appearance tend to stand out more than they do for the women who do not dress as modestly. For example, when a celebrity wears whatever she's wearing, how often do journalists comment on the hairstyle or the makeup? Sometimes they do, but the more revealing the clothing, the more the focus is on the body. Dressing modestly means people naturally focus more on the face than the clothes, which is a good thing!
