Chase Bank is everywhere in New York and offers outstanding service, including online banking and ATMs covering the city. Chase branches are also located in most places around the United States, so open an account before you go to make your first few weeks in New York much easier. If you want to switch to a different bank after you arrive in New York, that is fine, but plan on having at least $5,000 in cash available in a Chase account for your first month. Up to $3,000 of this may be spent on securing an apartment (a pre-paid sublet or first month’s rent plus one to two months deposit or realtor's fee).
