On Tuesday, October 30, 2012, Shane and Christina Nearman, International Directors of Models for Christ, sent an email to subscribers with a message and video offering support to anyone affected by Hurricane Sandy which devastated parts of New York City on Sunday, October 28. Because of the hub of garment design and manufacturing in New York, the lives of many in the fashion industry will be affected for months to come as the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) subway lines are repaired and homes and apartments that were flooded or destroyed are rebuilt. A transcript of the video, featuring the Nearmans in a serious and quiet tone, is as follows:
Shane: Hi, we want to extend our support and prayer for everyone that's been affected by the hurricane and any family or friends that have been injured or have died because of it, and we want you let you know that Models for Christ is here in New York to help out any way that they can.
Christina: We realize that this has been one of the worst storms that MTA has ever seen. The transit in New York City is still closed, the airports are still closed, and we just want you to know that if you're in need or you want to reach out, please contact us either through Facebook.com/ModelsforChrist . . . and connect with our MFC New York NYC group. And that way you can get on the wall and let people know what your needs are as well as emailing us. Our New York City director . . . she's available as well as our other leaders in New York. You can email us at
nyc (at) modelsforchrist (dot) com.
Shane: Yes, and we are praying for everyone, and please keep us posted if you are in New York City if you can, and give us updates. God bless you.
Christina: God bless you.
